The Summer Food Service Program (SFSP), also known as the Summer Meals Program, was established to ensure that children continue to receive nutritious meals when school is not in session. When school is out, SFSP provides free meals to kids and teens in low-income areas.
Each local educational agency that participates in the National School Lunch Program is required to participate in outreach for the Summer Food Service Program. The overall goal is to increase participation, with stated emphasis on increasing the participation of those in need. A successful program requires the support of the entire school community. Below you can find some guidance as well as tools to continue to increase participation in this program.
