Parent Email re: Week of April 27-May 1, 2020

Happy Friday, McCabe Families!

We’ve definitely hit the Valley's summer heat which means kids aren’t as likely to play outside during the day.  Check out the myON Reader and Accelerated Reader at Home below for online AR books and tests.  Reading daily is not only beneficial to your child, but gives you a few extra much-needed minutes to yourself each day!

Please read through this email in its entirety as it may answer a few questions you might have.

CAFETERIA BALANCES – If you have scheduled recurring autopayments on your child’s cafeteria account, please log into your MySchoolBucks account and stop the autopay.  Please watch for emails regarding outstanding cafeteria balances.  Payments can be made at www.MySchoolBucks.com.  For questions, please email Jennifer Castillo at jennifer.castillo@muesd.net.

2020 CENSUS – The U.S. Census Bureau has postponed the deadline for submitting your 2020 Census to October 31, 2020.  The online survey takes only a few minutes to complete.  Your community is counting on you, so take your family’s survey TODAY!

myON for STUDENTS: We want to share with you two new resources for our students to access from home which will be available to them on April 20th.

ACCELERATED READER AT HOME:  This is a digital library that gives students access to more than 6,000 enhanced digital books!  AND, students are now able to take AR tests at home!!  They will be able to log on from selecting the Renaissance link from our website.

Renaissance for Students:

RENAISSANCE myON READER:  In addition to the Accelerated Reader at Home component, Renaissance has generously opened up their (at no charge to the district due to COVID-19), myON - digital library component until June 30th for our district.  It's a great platform for students to keep track of the books they are reading as well as how many words they are reading. They are also able to take an AR test right after they have finished reading their book.  All students will have the same username and password when logging on.

INTERDISTRICT PETITIONS – If you have a child currently attending or released from McCabe on an interdistrict, the deadline to apply for the 2020-2021 school year has been extended to May 15th.  Due to current district office closures throughout the county, please click the link below to complete and print an interdistrict petition.  Interdistrict petitions should be mailed to your district of residence prior to May 15th.

REIMBURSEMENTS: With the school closure through the end of the year, all fieldtrips have been cancelled.  We will begin to generate reimbursements once our district office reopens.  Emails will be sent out to parents notifying them of how and when reimbursements will be mailed or available to pick up for monies paid for the following field trips:

Farm Smart (1st grade)

Living Desert (3rd grade)

BizTown (5th grade)

Catalina (8th grade)

STUDENT BELONGINGS: With very little notice prior to the campus closing to the public, students may still have belongings in their desks and PE lockers.  Once the stay-at-home order has been lifted and it is safe for the public to enter  campus, we’ll notify parents via email with dates and times for students to retrieve personal belongings and medications.

YEARBOOKS:  With the temporary closure of many companies across the nation, it is safe to assume Josten’s may be a little behind schedule on the production of yearbooks.  We’re hoping to have yearbooks delivered at some point in June at which point we will notify families of when to pick up pre-ordered yearbooks.  ALL yearbook orders were online only and the window to place online orders closed the end of February.  There will be no additional yearbooks for purchase.

TK & KINDER REGISTRATION – Online registration for new and returning Transitional Kindergarten (TK) and Traditional Kindergarten for the 2020-2021 school year has begun!

At this time, only STEP 1 of the registration process is necessaryDue to the current COVID-19 school closures, STEP 2 will be postponed until our district office reopens to the public.  At that time, our staff will review your submission and generate an email notification with further instructions.

To register a new or returning TK or Kinder student, please visit our website at www.muesd.net and look for the “TK/Kinder Registration” bubble in the top-left corner of our home page for links and instructions.  Should you have questions or issues with your registration, please email us at onlineregistration@muesd.net for assistance.

STEP 2 - Providing the child’s birth certificate, immunizations, and allowable proofs of residency for the parents will be at a later date.  See link to allowable proofs of residency below.
