New Staff Uniforms!

The McCabe support staff has a new look! Beautiful royal blue polos with our new logo can be seen on the grounds of both campuses, on the buses, and in the kitchens to help distinguish our valued staff members. Lookin' good!!

Jump Rope for Heart Assembly "Monster Mash"

This year, our TK-5th grade students set a goal of $15,000 to collected during their Jump Rope for Heart fundraiser for the American Heart Association. A promise was made by Mrs. Sanchez-Macias and Mrs. Wells that, if students met their $15,000 goal, the ladies would dress up as monsters. Students surpassed their goal by raising over $24,000 to help those afflicted with heart disease. Catalina Updates for Day 4 - June 1st

PROJECTED ARRIVAL TIME: 7:30PM
4:05pm ~ Last pictures posted for the week. Be sure to look over the pictures with your child over the weekend!
2:24pm ~ Buses loaded, they're on their way home!!
1:48pm ~ Both ferries in port. Students are sorting and loading luggage and snacks.
12:27pm ~ Ferry #2 departing to port.
12:06pm ~ Ferry #1 departing to port.
12pm ~ First ferry scheduled to pick up students at 12pm.
7:30am - They're cleaning and packing to head home today! Please check back to the front page picture of the ferry for updates on estimated arrival time. Updates will begin after 1pm today.

Catalina Updates for Day 3 ~ May 31st

BE SURE TO LOOK AT DAY 2 FOR LATE PICTURES POSTED!!

4:00pm ~ Last post of the day . . . estimated arrival time for the buses back at Corfman is between 7pm-9pm depending on the traffic. Please check back to the front page of this website for updates after 1pm on Friday on the whereabouts of the students as they head towards home!!

12:00pm ~ New pictures and videos posted of today's activities!

11:45am ~ Lunch today was build-your-own wrap!

8:00am ~ The morning kicks off with group meetings after a breakfast of eggs, sausage, hash browns, fruit, and cereal before heading out for rock climbing and kayaking!

Catalina Updates for Day 2: Wednesday, May 30th

6:00pm ~ Dinner was teriyaki chicken, rice, edamame, salad, fruit, and banana cake with vanilla frosting.
3:42pm ~ Pictures added of today's group of students crossing the cat walk and zip-lining. They're having a blast facing their fears and cheering each other on!!
1:10pm ~ More pictures posted of students composting after lunch.
12:00pm ~ Today's lunch . . . hot dogs, chili, fries, fruit, and salad!
8:30am ~ Students are off to snorkel this morning! Check back for pictures!
8:20am ~ This morning's breakfast was pancakes, bacon, fresh fruit, and cereal.
7:30am ~ Students are up and starting their day. Stay tuned for updates and pictures throughout the day!

Catalina Updates for Day 1: Tuesday, May 29th

8:00pm ~ Students completed their night hike and settled around the campfire for stargazing. They'll all sleep good tonight!!
6:00pm ~ Dinner was spaghetti, salad, and brownies for dessert.
5:58pm ~ Several new pics!
2:30pm ~ Another group had the opportunity to go scuba diving.
1:30pm ~ The first hike will begin at 2:00pm
12:15pm ~ Lunch has been served: bean & cheese burritos with green sauce, salad with all the fixin's, and fruit.
11:12am ~ Students have arrived at Howlands Landing on Catalina Island and are going through orientation.

8:50am ~ Students have arrived at San Pedro, safe and sound. Students will now unload their belongings from the charter bus and begin to load the ferry to Howlands Landing on Catalina Island.
4:05am ~ Students boarded charter buses and left the McCabe campus.

8th Graders Head to Catalina Island!

McCabe's 8th grade students met to load charter buses at 3:15am and headed off for their week at Catalina Island at 4:05am. Be sure to check back to the daily link for updates with pictures of the students on their hikes, canoeing, snorkeling, etc.

After 23 years of teaching (15 of those years with the McCabe Union Elementary School District!), Mrs. Wray has decided to put away her grade book and take on the new title of "Nana!" We will miss your beautiful smile and giving heart, Mrs. Wray! Best wishes and enjoy your well-deserved time with your growing family!

1st Grade's Butterflies Take Flight!

First grade spent the last few weeks expanding on their NGSS standards and learning about the life cycle of butterflies. We started with caterpillars that grew and grew and morphed into their third chrysalis stage. We patiently waited through their chrysalis stage and watched in awe as they hatched into beautiful butterflies just in time to share with our families at Spring Fling! Today we spent the morning releasing them into our Friendship Garden where they can continue the life cycle. If you’re lucky you may catch one flutter your way!

Thank You, McCabe PTO and Parents for an AMAZING Night at Spring Fling!!

The evening of May 16th was an exciting night for parents, students, and staff! Thousands of parents enjoyed the evening by visiting their childrens' classrooms to see projects they've worked on throughout the school year. The evening was topped off by the annual Basket Raffle event hosted by McCabe's PTO. Themes for baskets were Backyard BBQ, Garage Makeover, Good Morning Sunshine, Road to Reading, Disney Fun, just to name a few! Click the heading above for pictures of the "baskets"!

Kinder Students Celebrate Moms!

McCabe GATE New Crew and Tech Students Honored at May 8th School Board Meeting

Several of McCabe's GATE News Crew members and technology students were honored at McCabe's School Board Meeting on Tuesday, May 8th. These groups of students participated in the 2018 Imperial County Student Film Festival earning 1st and 2nd place for PSA and 1st and 2nd place for short film.

The second group of students honored assisted teachers at Tech de Mayo with ways to help students be safe online using Google's internet curriculum.

The last group honored was the McCabe News Crew including anchors, reporters, camera operators, and editors who publish our weekly McCabe News for our website.

We couldn't be more proud of our students and their professionalism!

1st Grade Went to SeaWorld!

McCabe's 1st grade students traveled to SeaWorld on May 3rd to "make a splash" while reinforcing what they've learned about the ocean and its creatures throughout the school year. (Click the heading above for pictures of their wet and wild day!)

McCabe Orchestra Spring Concert

On the evening of May 1st, middle school orchestra students from around the Valley performed at Southwest High School. It was the first of what we hope to be an annual concert which gives all middle school orchestra students a chance to work together in rehearsal and a final concert. This is a great outreach to students to encourage them to continue in orchestra to help build the programs in each of these schools as well as eventually strengthen the overall SHS orchestra program. 3rd Grade is Ready to CRUSH the SBAC!!

Biz Town Mayor Chris Choi, along with McCabe's fifth grade students, loaded buses the morning of April 26th and headed over the hill to San Diego to participate in JA Biz Town! Mrs. Gray’s first graders continued our Earth Day celebrations by kicking off the week with a paperless digital lesson on pollution. These brilliant little thinkers have been working together to come up with a solution to our ocean pollution problem with our Pollution Solution STEM project. GATE Students Host Game Night!

On the evening of April 19th, Mr. Arevalo’s GATE students debuted their original cardboard games to their parents and administration. These games took months of planning, collaborating with their partners, and engaging in the design process to complete. All of the games involved engineering and trial-and-error processes. After presenting their games, students invited their parents to play them. It was such a fun evening where everyone got to unwind and play some epic student-created games! Mr. Arevalo's class held a Mystery Skype with new friends in Irvine, CA!

Mr. Arevalo’s students engaged in a Mystery Skype with Mrs. Greig’s 4th-grade classroom out of Irvine, California. The goal was to be the first class to guess the other’s location by asking questions and doing research to unlock clues. Students had to work together, problem-solve, and use Google Maps to find the location of the mystery class. Ultimately, Mr. Arevalo’s class was victorious! It was a great experience. 1st Grade Takes on Measurement!

1st grade travels to Farm Smart at the Desert Research and Extension Center!

On Wednesday, March 13th, Mrs. Wray, Mrs. Tucker, and Mrs. Gray took their classes to the Desert Research and Extension Center in Holtville to spend the day at Farm Smart learning about water conservation, different soils, Imperial Valley crops and harvesting.
